At 3 p.m, on November 30, Zuo Xiaode, the Professor of Management School of Jinan University came to visit the Business Forum of our School and gave a lecture titled “the Writing and Analyses of Business Administration Case”, Liu Yongmei, the Vice-dean of Business School, Wei Ping, the Associate Professor & Assistant Of the Dean, and some other related teachers have attended this lecture. Liu Yongmei, the vice-dean presided over it.
Zuo Xiaode is now a Professor and Doctoral Supervisor of Business Management Department of Jinan University. His main research directions are Business Management and Decision Analysis. Three cases written by Prof. Zuo Xiaode have been selected into National One Hundred Excellent Cases. Meanwhile, the theme of lecture given by Prof. Zuo Xiaode is “the Writing and Analyses of Business Administration Case”. It seems that he is planning to discuss the writing methods of excellent cases with students in CSU by this lecture.
This lecture is separated into two parts: one is case explanation, the other is writing methods. In the first part, by explaining one of his award-winning case titled “Tian Li Communication Company: the supply Chain of Knockoff Cell Phones” , Prof. Zuo analyzed the difference between knock off cell phones and authorized cell phones in the aspects of supply chain operation mechanism, production cycle and reaction velocity, then he gave such advice as organic organization, organization and management with plan, and the level-to-level administration of ordering goods to solve the problems of the slow reaction velocity in supply chain, Bull-whip Effect and Long Tail Effect, etc. At last, Prof. Zuo compared Sumsing, iPhone and MIUI and concluded the features of cell phone supply chain from both horizontal and vertical dimensions. In the part of writing methods, Prof. Zuo explained the methods and skills of writing cases from six aspects as following: selecting topic, collecting case materials, writing cases, basic skills, operation manual of the case, and Power of attorney of the case. With introducing two excellent cases titled “ the Reorganization of Business Process of Ping An Bank Co. Ltd” and “Tian Li Communication Company: the supply Chain of Knockoff Cell Phones”, Prof. Zuo vividly showed the necessary traits that excellent cases should have and provided a good writing model for students.
The last part of this lecture is Question & Answer. Prof. Zuo warmly interacted with postgraduates in our school. Students expressed their opinions and asked some questions, which are answered carefully by Prof. Zuo. Every student has learned a lot in this process.
Finally, with the warmly applauding of students, this lecture ended successfully.
